I hope you enjoy this beautiful song written by my friend Anna Mitchell. She writes here the inspiration for her song:
This song is mainly taken from Marks account of Jesus and the disciples in the garden of Gethsemane shortly before Jesus is crucified (Mark 14: 32-52) At such an important time the disciples could not stay awake with Jesus. We see Jesus being obedient to the father unto death yet the disciple’s spirit was willing but flesh was weak and they could not remain obedient even in this relatively small ask.
Especially in these days too, the Lord is continually looking and seeking out faithful servants; ‘For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
We, as individuals and the church, at this important time, must ‘stay awake, be sober’ (1 Thessalonians 5:6) and watch and pray. We need to be discerning of the times so that when we see events happening we react according to His spirit and Will and not as we see the disciples reacting upon Jesus’ arrest, with rash actions, fear and confusion. Praise God for his mercy and the time He is allowing for His people and church to be faithful and commit wholeheartedly. We are in a day of decision – can we stand with Joshua, fearing the Lord, serving Him in sincerity and truth and putting away idols and sin; ‘as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.’ (Joshua 24:14-15)
By His spirit, let us overcome, wake up, be sober and ‘strengthen what remains’ (Revelation 3:2) ‘for the great day of the Lord is near’ (Zephaniah 1:14).

LYRICS
They came to the place Gethsemane
He took Peter, James and John His closest three
‘Sit here while I pray’
‘Sit here while I pray’
His soul was overcome with much sorrow
The sufferings he would face they did not know
‘Stay here and watch’
‘Stay here and watch’
Awake! Be Sober
Wake up,
And strengthen what remains
For the day of the Lord is near
The day of the Lord is near
Take this cup from me our saviour prayed
But the fathers will would always be obeyed
‘Watch and pray’
‘Watch and pray’
CHORUS
